Nivea Black and White deodorant Product Sale Halted Since 2022,German Company

In light of the recent ban on Nivea Black and White Invisible Roll-on deodorant by Nigeria’s National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), the German multinational company Beiersdorf has issued a detailed statement regarding the product.

The company clarified that it has not sold or advertised this particular deodorant in Nigeria since 2022. This announcement follows NAFDAC’s warning against the use of the Nivea deodorant, which was flagged due to the inclusion of a harmful chemical that has been banned in cosmetics products.

NAFDAC’s concerns stem from reports that European authorities had recalled the Nivea Black and White Invisible Body Deodorant because it allegedly contained 2-(4-tert-Butylbenzyl propionaldehyde (BMHCA). This chemical is prohibited in cosmetic products because of its potential to cause serious health risks, including reproductive harm, complications for unborn children, skin irritation, and burns for users.

In their response, Beiersdorf emphasized that the specific batch in question, identified as Batch No. 93529610, has never been marketed in Nigeria. They stated that this batch expired in January 2022 and was fully compliant with the relevant European cosmetic regulations in effect at that time.

Beiersdorf further noted that they have proactively ensured the safety of their products by removing Lilial from their entire NIVEA product line well ahead of the European regulations that came into force on March 1, 2022.

The company reassured its valued customers that their commitment to safety and quality remains unwavering. They emphasized that all products undergo rigorous quality checks and adhere to global safety standards. “The NIVEA BLACK & WHITE Invisible Roll-on deodorant has been free from Lilial since at least 2020, including in the Nigerian market,” the statement affirmed.

In conclusion, Beiersdorf has reiterated its dedication to consumer safety and compliance with regulatory requirements, ensuring that all of its products meet stringent health and safety standards. The company’s proactive measures highlight its commitment to delivering safe and reliable products to its customers worldwide.
