- IWD: DOHS foundation recused 72 women, children from uncalled situation
The DOHS Cares for Vulnerable Women and Children Foundation(DOHS), a Non-Governmental Organisation said it recused 72 women and children from uncalled situation across the country.
Mrs Lolade Ajayi the founder of the foundation disclosed this over the weekend while celebrating the 2024 International Women’s Day at her office at Gbagada, Lagos, tagged Champion Her.
Ajayi, regrettably, noted that women are still not free from violence adding that in the last one year domestic violence and sexual abuses are increasing on daily basis.
“Presently, we have 13 court cases of domestic and sexual abuse, so, we are raising awareness about discrimination and how to help women and girls manage their lives.
“We do this by empowering them economically and also train them so that whatever we invest in them will not go to waste but rather save them in any situation’’.
She advised women to get involved in low skill businesses which will help them manage their homes.
” We always celebrate women and girl child. We equally provide free cervical cancer screening as cancer is one of the number one killer disease all over the world and that was why we initiated this programme called”The #Championer”.
The general manager of Shell HELL Petroleum Development Company West Multi Purpose Cooperative Society Limited (SPDC), Mrs Amaka Edwin, urged women to acquire skills no matter how little which will assist them in taking care of their homes.
Edwin noted that women have important roles in the society and there is the need for them to be of help to one another at any given moment.
“We are here to celebrate the International women’s day and advocate for freedom for women and children against domestic violence.
Adeola Eka, a digital tech guru, advised women to go digital because they are a lot of opportunity out there waiting to be tapped.
“I’m here to share my experience on how to discover the potential in digital, I was once involved in domestic violence when I was not doing any work, but I am working and train people on how to easily navigate in empowerment opportunity in digital space.
One of the trainers, Ms Henshaw Esther, a trader, said that she learnt about doing business digitally and also on social media sales without having any problem in keeping records.
She appreciated the foundation for the sensitization talk especially on domestic violence and health awareness programme.
